Overview

The Mission

The Respect Life Office champions Church teaching regarding the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. As a part of the mission of the office, all presentations for students and faculty are provided free of charge.

What is truth?

We live in a culture that is deeply confused about life, and, yet, the fundamental questions about life that pervade the hearts of young people remain the same. Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? What is happiness? What is love? The answers to all of these questions remain the same. The answer is Truth, and Truth is a person, Christ.

In each of these presentations, we deliver messages of medical, ethical and theological truths about the dignity of the human person, our bodies, the culture, life, love, and relationships. All of these presentations encourage young people to rise up and embrace the beauty and freedom of God’s plan for their lives, and to be joyful witnesses of the authentic happiness that comes from embracing the wonderful adventure of the truth of the ‘Gospel of Life.’

That is not all…

In addition to the listed presentations, and upon request, the Respect Life office provides customized presentations on life issues topics as needed. These customized presentations can be requested for a particular grade level(s) or for a faculty seminar/retreat. The Respect Life Office is also available to provide classroom presentation assistance or retreat assistance for life issues topics as needed.

The Respect Life office has an electronic library of over 1000 articles, journals, research and various other resources. These materials are available to the schools, and can make strong supplements to curriculum on the biology of the human person, theology of the body, dignity of life, historical significance of abortion etc. These resources can also be strong guides for school administration and faculty when it comes to navigating challenging life issues as they arise in the schools.

Understanding Your Student’s Spiritual Gifts

As educators, you already know that each of your students is unique – in temperament, culture, family background, learning style, socioeconomic status, faith base and the list goes on. There is another rich dimension of uniqueness to your students – their spiritual gifts (based off the motivational gifts from Romans 12).

This understanding is crucial for educators of all grade levels because a student’s set of spiritual gifts strongly influences the way the student thinks, acts, leads, works with others and even the way the student is best motivated in the classroom. A working knowledge of these spiritual gifts empowers teachers with another tool for understanding and meeting the distinct challenges and dynamics of their classrooms.

“ABC Link – Abortion & Breast Cancer” the abortion-breast cancer link is a risk factor that has been conveniently downplayed by the abortion industry and its supporters. Using power point & a DVD presentation, this school offering takes a hard examination of the clear clinical evidence of this link in both worldwide and US studies.

“All Life is Beautiful” is a popular presentation full of film clips of incredible people with handicaps and special needs that reinforce the topic of the value, worth and dignity of every human life.

“Alternatives to the Pill” examines the mindset, which has dominated the field of reproductive medicine for the last 45+ years. Since their advent, oral contraceptives have become the medical profession’s treatment of choice for a whole host of gynecologic and medical conditions. Without investigating underlying causes, oral contraceptives are prescribed as a ‘band-aid’ to serious conditions. This is an injustice to the true health of women everywhere, and to the real alternatives, which address the real needs of women’s health.

“Brave New World – The Price of Reproductive Technologies” at surface value, Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) do not immediately present themselves as immoral & unethical. After all, where contraception and abortion are directly opposed to new life, ART conceives new life. By scratching the thin veneer of the seemingly surface value of ART though, one can gaze with horror at the brave new world, which ART is establishing as conception takes place in laboratories that are harnessing life via the dominance of technology.

“Discover & Understand Your Spiritual Gifts” is a program based upon the seven motivational gifts from Romans 12. When we understand our gifts, we have a better understanding of why we think and act the way we do, and how these gifts affect our relationships. This half-day program includes a personal gift assessment and an overview of the gifts with a breakdown of the strengths and weakness of each gift as well as how Christ functioned in these gifts while He was here on earth.

“Emotional Consequences of Premarital Activities and ‘Rewards for Waiting” is a presentation that counters the dominant messages of our culture and media which promote all forms of sexual activity as “positive” and “consequence free.” This presentation communicates to young people the proven painful, heart breaking and life altering consequences that come from experimentation, and the truth of the beauty and freedom of sex within the lifelong sacrament of marriage.

“The Health Problems Associated with Hormonal Birth Control” is an examination of the overall ethical concerns and the short and long-term medical consequences of hormonal birth control, and the wise, and healthy alternatives of Natural Fertility Awareness methods.

“The Hidden Epidemic: STDs” is a preventative medicine approach which educates young people on the current dangers of the epidemic levels of STIs in our country. This presentation clarifies methods of transmissibility, and seeks to guide young hearts away from experimentation, and to embrace the reality that they and their future spouse are “worth waiting for.”

“Little Pill, Big Problems – Reconsidering the Contraceptive Culture” is an analysis of the devastating medical, physical, psychological, social and environmental consequences of the contraceptive culture.

“Myths & Realities: The Morning After Pill” is a presentation that sifts through the myths and realities which surround the Morning After Pill, and other various types of ‘emergency contraception.’

“Power of Prayer & Actions Students Can Take in Pro-Life Action” is a program for students, but it also is a powerful event to invite parents to. It strengthens students to take action for life with a special emphasis on the most important weapon we can take into the battle, prayer.

“Pro-Life Boot Camp” is a high-energy event that is great for a school assembly or youth group. It equip students with the medical truths of the continuous development of the human person (beginning at conception), and the harmful physical, emotional and spiritual consequences of abortion (graphic images are never used). Students will leave the boot camp strengthened to articulate their pro-life views, advocate for life, and best counsel a schoolmate, cousin or friend facing an unplanned pregnancy.

“Tough Moral Questions: Sound Responses to the Top Arguments for Abortion” takes the most prevalent secular arguments for abortion head on, and equips students to examine the fallacies embedded within them, and to counter them confidently in charity and truth.

“When Did You Become You?” integrates the use of embryoscopy, milestones of early human development, 3D imaging, and pre-birth anatomically weighted models from 7 through 30 weeks gestation. All of this educates students on the rich scientific truths of early human development and the dignity of the unique and innocent life in the womb.

“Wisdom for Discerning a Life Partner” is a thought provoking presentation, which encourages young people to go beyond our culture’s emotionally driven approach to love and relationships, and to internalize the reality of sacramental marriage. Young people are encouraged to discern with wisdom the qualities to look for in the person who they will commit to loving for a lifetime.
